Today I realized that Gilmore Girls no longer holds my interest and hasn't for a couple years now. The last time I watched some episodes was while consuming too much vodka with my now girlfriend and her room mate who had another friend over to watch Gilmore Girls. While sitting in an alcohol haze I tried to focus on the show but couldn't help but wonder "what the hell is going on?" Maybe vodka has magical powers of clarity. Gilmore Girls: you are no longer on my list of favorite shows on myspace.
We recently finished the Degrassi movie, School's Out, and for and ending of the series everything sits uncomfortably, like I ate too fast. While brushing my teeth the other night I look over at my lady, also brushing her teeth, and sputter, "I feel weird after watching the Degrassi movie." She agreed. I am still digesting.
Tessa Campanelli: Goofy little squirt to boys on the brain in quite that literal jump. You don't notice her and then when she has more screen time it's the 'but the guys don't even notice us' story all over again. That appears to be what her character is made to portray since she's going man to man to man, which at first is kind of sweet but then she is ready to move on. Tessa is great at getting a guy to be excited about her then not care anymore as she aims her torpedoes at a new ship. She has sleepy/stoner eyes but does not appear to use any type of drugs, so I'll guess that she does not get much sleep from staying up late thinking about the next guy she wants to get with and become bored. She gets the hugs that happen for a week or so, then when you get used to them you automatically approach with arms open and ready but she gives you the look of denial while saying "what are you doing?" Rejection!
Susie Rivera: The Jr. High episodes of Degrassi are far in my mind since watching the High School series and the movie (School's Out) which narrows down the characters, so when it came to Susie I couldn't remember who she was as I reviewed a list of characters online. Online notes say she is a close friend of Caitlin Ryan and after finding some pictures I remember Susie. A strong and outspoken character that is less outspoken than Caitlin and Kathleen, a sort of balance, she appears reasonable on serious issues and you'd hang out with her based on being annoyed with Kathleen then develop a better friendship as you talk about boys. Not an exciting character, but sometimes that's what you need. She gets those weird side hugs that clearly say 'just friends.'
Michelle: Her character starts out as a 'mousy' and shy girl, tempting you to turn up the volume when she speaks, but she is given screen time to develop. She gets some drama in her life which relates to the general populace or maybe I relate to her most, at least with the shy stuff. Michelle branches out due to problems with her parents and developing her own independence to get away, but that is a lot of work. Trying to maintain a job and keep up on school work is difficult, but when I was down to the wire with assignments I didn't consider anything other than coffee. Later in college I would stay up as late as possible, then go to sleep for awhile and finish in the morning. Sometimes in my sleep I would have sudden epiphany and scribble notes in the dark which were often confusing and funny in the morning. Anyway, Michelle is trying to grow up and is pulled into her place by the reality of being in High School and her friends - mainly Alexa (see Alexa in previous descriptions). Brace yourself, she may fall asleep in your arms, but be gentle when waking her cause she may jolt and throw caffeine pill boxes at you.
Amy and Allyson: Rarely do you see these two apart, actually I don't recall if you ever do. It's like with a bear cub, you know the mother must be close by, so be careful because if you see one the other is usually within earshot. One of these girls wears this bright orange sweater with these little balls all over it on many episodes and they share pretty much their entire wardrobe. They will probably get an apartment together and if they ever marry will get houses next to each other while their respective husbands share sighs over whatever these two ladies are fighting about now. You don't mind hanging around these two sometimes because they can be funny with their commentary, but they also have their own poor taste in dudes. Maybe that's a problem in the 80's and early 90's though because a lot of them guys develop their own sense of creepy. I'm not sure about hugging either of these two because they'll gossip about it later, but then again you might get them to fight about who got a better hug, so there's something to think about.
